Cadet & Junior Week
Overview
Cadet & Junior Week is an annual event organised by the Scottish Gliding Centre for members aged 13–26. The week provides concentrated flying and ground training in a fun, supportive environment, helping young members accelerate their progress, develop new skills and make friends across the club. Whether taking first instructional flights or working towards a Sailplane Pilot Licence (SPL), the week offers something for everyone. The event is usually held the first week of the school holidays.
Obectives

- Help members achieve their individual flying goals.
- Provide an enjoyable, safe and memorable week.
Flying & Training
Training is tailored to each member's experience and objectives. Activities may include basic instruction, pre-solo training, first solo flights, post-solo consolidation, cross-country coaching, daily inspections, winch launch training, aerotow training, Touring Motor Glider (TMG) flights, SPL preparation, ground school sessions and evening workshops.
Additional Activities
Where opportunities exist, the programme may include aerobatic flights, vintage glider flights, visits to aviation museums, guest speakers, and social activities including barbecues. Activities vary from year to year and are subject to aircraft availability, instructor availability, weather and operational requirements.
Accommodation
Members are welcome to stay at the Scottish Gliding Centre throughout the week. Accommodation may include the club bunkhouse, camping, and campervans or caravans where available. Parents and guardians are welcome to visit during the week.
Safeguarding & Welfare
The Scottish Gliding Centre is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for all young people. Cadet & Junior Week is conducted in accordance with the Club's safeguarding procedures and British Gliding Association guidance. Parents and guardians receive joining information before the event, including supervision arrangements, emergency contact details and welfare information.
Standards of Behaviour
Cadet & Junior Week is based on mutual respect, teamwork and personal responsibility. All participants are expected to behave responsibly, follow instructors' directions, treat others with courtesy and contribute positively to the successful running of the week. All participants are expected to comply with the Scottish Gliding Centre's Alcohol Policy. In particular, Cadet members must not consume alcohol during Cadet & Junior Week, and any adult involved in flying activities or supervising young people is expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and responsibility at all times.
Who Can Attend?
Cadet & Junior Week is open to all Cadet and Junior Members aged 13–26. Attendance is not limited to members of the Cadet Scholarship Scheme. Places may be limited depending on instructor availability, accommodation capacity and aircraft availability.

Details of each year's Cadet & Junior Week, including dates, joining instructions and booking arrangements, are published in advance through the Club's normal communication channels.
